Starting with us in Reception
Thank you for considering Newington Community Primary School for your child's education. This website aims to provide our community with an insight into what life is like at NCPS but we strongly recommend that potential families come and see the school in action. We would love to show you around and we have 700 children who are keen to meet you. To arrange a tour, please call the school office or look out for our Open Days in November.
Prior to your child starting school, we will host a new reception parents meeting, where the Headteacher, Miss Tudor, will introduce our school, the team and our ethos. Further details from Mrs Gower, EYFS Lead, will highlight information about our curriculum, our vision and our aims.
In term 6, following our transition meeting with the local nurseries, we invite the children to attend 3 settling in sessions. The idea is that parents/carers drop the children to us, leave them with us to play and get to know them for 3 x 1-hour sessions. The children will then be allocated to classes/teachers.
Each family will receive a home visit and further details of these will be shared after the settling in sessions. These meetings are essential in getting to know you, your child and an opportunity for families to raise any questions or queries about starting school.
The Published Admissions Number (PAN) for Newington Community Primary School is 90. This means that we take 90 children in to Reception each September and we cannot go above that number. The Local Authority will allocate places according to the School Admissions Policy (please see document below).
To apply for a reception class school place (the September after your child turns 4), you need to complete the local authority’s (LA) common application form (CAF) and submit this directly to the LA or child’s primary school by the deadline. All the details are listed on the Kent County Council Website following the link below:

In Year Admissions
Families moving in to the area or from another local school are welcome to apply for a school place via the in year admissions route. This is outlined in our Admissions Policy.
Families should contact Mrs C Biggs, Admissions Officer to enquire about school places. Mrs Biggs oversees admissions in to every year group, class numbers and our school waiting list. School tours can be arranged for all of our new families prior to admission.
To secure a place, families must complete the In-Year Application form and submit it to the school, by email, to the following address: admissions@newington-ramsgate.kent.sch.uk
We ask all new families to read our Admissions Policy carefully prior to making an application.
The school will inform parents and the local authority if an offer can be made. If we are unable to offer a place you will be told how to appeal and how to place your child’s name on the school waiting list.
